about

Raleigh Rye, ( aka, Dempsey G McIntire ), is a country blues guitar and honky tonk piano player, singer and native of Southern California.

Raleigh lives in Los Angeles now after spending 11 years living in London, England.
He has been playing on the festival and club circuit in the UK (including a 6 month stint living with The Pogues’ leader Shane McGowan above a North London pub).
Signed by Universal Records under the name Dempsey, he released the critically acclaimed album 'Sunrise/Sunset', produced by London based folktronica mix merchant Four Tet and Trevor Jackson of Output Recordings.

He has been fortunate to spend time living in a rent controlled apartment in Greenwich Village, studying at UT Austin, as well as playing music and living in such cities as Nashville, and Topanga Canyon LA.

In each of these cities he has cultivated a repertoire with the local musical stylists, and performing across the South-West and North-East of the US and throughout Europe.

Raleigh has been writing songs in the traditional styles of the American rock'n'roll and country blues.

He has been putting the finishing touches on his self-produced LP 'Raleigh Rye'.
The album is inspired by writers of American Southern literature from the 1920s and 1930s. The recordings include members of such bands as Morrissey, Tom Jones, Mystery Jets and various West Country instrumentalists.

In live shows, in addition to his original songs, Raleigh covers traditional artists such as: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Mississippi John Hurt, JJ Cale, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Towns Van Zant, Hank Williams, The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, The Everly Brothers, Bukka White, Bob Dylan, The Band and many more.
